Where : C is called channel capacity ; W is band width ; P / N is the signal -to-noise power ratio . This scheme: maintaining information capacity C in the same conditions , can have a different W and P / N, i.e. , if the frequency is widened , the noise in the channel may be relatively low, and can achieve the same channel capacity ( effective information transmission rate ) . Even in the case of submerged by the noise signal , as long as a corresponding increase in the signal transmission bandwidth , it is possible to achieve a reliable transmission purposes . Spread Spectrum Communication is based on this principle .
